Born in 1970 in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Jean-Paul Cardinaux has lived in Geneva since 1975.
He did his first steps in cinematography by filming Skateboard and Snowboard on video and Super 8 mm. It was only after studies in architecture and various other professional experiences, that he decided to make of his passion for image a profession.
From 1996 to 1999 he was employed by Events Video Productions in Geneva, were he is in charge of the production and post-production institutional films. In parallel, he participates in the shooting of several fictions films.
In January 1999 he decided to set himself up as an independent Cameraman and makes his first fiction as Cameraman and Editor, Salade(s) Russe(s), a Short Film directed by Elena Hazanov.
Afterward he diversified his experience by working as Assistant Operator, Cameraman, Steadicam Operator, Jimmy Jib Operator and Editor on short and feature films.
Motivated by his envy to realize a fiction film, he develops the script of Week End break which he realized in April 2001. The film received excellent reviews and was shown in several festivals:

Since its release, Week End break continues to be regularly broadcast on numerous television such as Télévision Suisse Romande, (Switzerland), TV5 (Europe), Radio France Canada (Canada), STV, (Sweden). In August 2001, the Swiss Rap group Sens Unik, contacted Jean-Paul to conceive and direct a music video for their single C'est la vie.
In 2002 he wrote a script for a feature films, based on the same characters as Week End break. This film is in search of financing.
The same year, he directed the episodes: Le facteur et Le maître nageur for the short show Lipchitz. In 2003 he co-directed and edited Five Steps to Victory a documentary portraying the entire Alinghi journey, from forming the team to its victory in the 2003 America's Cup.
During the shooting of Love Express, a feature film directed by Elena Hazanov, in which he worked as Cameraman and Editor, he met Georges Guerreiro co-scenarist of Love Express.
Together they developed a script for a feature film Dernières Minutes. That movie, directed by Jean-Paul Cardinaux is actually in the pre-production stage and the shooting is planned for summer 2007. In 2004 he directed two commercials for EasyJet. One concerning airplane maintenance and the other describing their new destination, Madrid.
From 2004 to 2005 he created, produced and directed a television show La limousine, edited two feature films: De ce monde and Ryna, and a documentary for the BBC, Doctors on the frontline. In October 2005 he occurs as director/cameraman, in a training workshop "creating a commercial" at the school of communication Polycom in Lausanne.
In December 2005, he was approached by the production company Freestudios, who were seeking a director.
Since he joined the Freestudios team he directed two corporate films, one for the private bankers Lombard-Odier Darier & Hentsh, the other for Similor-Kugler, a commercial for the Casino de Montreux and a promotional film for Bertrand Piccard's project Solaimpulse.
